Adams Garden Park
Under the leadership of Sharon and Larry Adams, retired co-founders of Walnut Way Conservancy, a vacant lot in the Lindsay heights neighborhood will be transformed into Adams Garden Park. The site will feature office space and green infrastructure, including porous pavement, bioswales, native plantings, trees, and a cistern that captures 100 percent of the runoff […]
Green Infrastructure at the STEAM Education Center
This grant will help convert a large degraded paved area along the Sheboygan River into usable park space, featuring green infrastructure and new public access to the river. It’s part of a larger project to create a learning and outdoor recreation area that connects the 8th Street Bridge Public Boat Launch with the new Visitor […]
Monitoring the Performance of a Subsurface Gravel Wetland
Marquette will conduct research on the effectiveness of treating polluted runoff with subsurface gravel wetlands. These engineered wetlands have shown significant promise as a green infrastructure practice but have not been widely adopted in Wisconsin due to a lack of monitoring studies and technical design standards. Oshkosh is an ideal site for this work, and […]
Resiliency Coordinator
This grant helps the City of Green Bay hire a Resiliency Coordinator to promote improved water quality and flood mitigation through green stormwater infrastructure, low-impact development, and other measures. This will be the first full-time person dedicated to sustainability within Green Bay city government.
Improving Stormwater Capture & Coastal Habitat Using an Engineered Dune and Swale System
North Beach, one of Racine’s prized community assets, has undergone restorations since 2004 that have lifted it to designation as one of America’s 50 Best Beaches (USA Today) and a Blue Wave Clean Beach. Since high Lake Michigan water levels are taking their inevitable toll on water quality, more is needed to keep the beach […]
Long-Term Assessment of Lake Sturgeon
This funding supports the Wisconsin portion of a Lake Michigan wide effort to better understand the movement and live cycles of sturgeon. Two PIT (passive integrated transponder) tag antennas will be installed, one on the Milwaukee River and the other on the Peshtigo River. Results will inform future fish stocking strategies.
Centerville Creek Restoration Project
In 1996 the Village of Cleveland removed an over 100-year old dam at the Cleveland Mill Pond and began stabilizing the area and restoring habitat. However, recent high water levels and extreme rain events have pushed more sediment into Centerville Creek and demonstrated that further stabilization must be done to protect those earlier efforts. This […]
Building the Capacity and Delivery of LNRP’s Stewardship Fund
LNRP will increase the scope and scale of LNRP’s small grants program. Grants are awarded to conservation organizations in eastern Wisconsin to build capacity and to implement on-the-ground restoration and water quality projects.
Organizational Support
LNRP works with eight local watershed partners, four regional networks, and Restore the Shore to foster stewardship and champion the environment through research, educational workshops, and collaborative community projects. This grant will help build LNRP’s capacity to recruit and advocate for implementable water quality improvement projects.
Bluff Erosion Control and Habitat Creation
Erosion along the Lake Michigan coastline is an increasingly urgent problem. The City of Oak Creek will use these funds to develop engineering options for preventing a local bluff that houses a capped brownfield from spilling into the lake. Since the site is within a mile of drinking water intakes for several communities, stopping the […]
