Fund For Lake Michigan

Bluff Erosion Control and Habitat Creation

  • Grant Recipient: City of Oak Creek
  • Amount: $125,000
  • Year: 2019
  • Watershed: Lake Michigan Coast
  • Focus Area: Habitat Restoration

Erosion along the Lake Michigan coastline is an increasingly urgent problem. The City of Oak Creek will use these funds to develop engineering options for preventing a local bluff that houses a capped brownfield from spilling into the lake. Since the site is within a mile of drinking water intakes for several communities, stopping the erosion is critical. The project also aims to increase needed habitat for migratory species. A $500,000 MMSD grant will fund construction once the city selects a plan.
