Southport Park Watershed Rejuvenation Project
The City of Kenosha has partnered with the Southport Beach Park Association to revitalize the buildings, grounds, and shoreline of Southport Beach with the goal of greater environmental stewardship, accessibility, and historic preservation. In line with these efforts, SPA is designing plans for a new stormwater management system and for a landscape design plan to […]
Pike River Mouth – Stream Bank and Riparian Buffer Restoration
For centuries, people have gathered at the mouth of the Pike River and now Root-Pike WIN is creating a plan to restore and protect this historic space. The plans will address vegetation, education, and recreation, by fortifying the banks and improving stormwater runoff at the Kenosha Sport Fishing and Conservation Association’s fish rearing pond.
Water School 2021
For years, Milwaukee Water Commons’ Water School has built resilience by providing diverse community members with the information, tools, and leadership experience they need to become catalysts for water preservation and protection. This year, the program will focus on water access, quality, and safety in order to promote engagement in larger, Milwaukee-wide actions.
Kletzsch Dam Fish Passage Project
Dams act as a barrier for native fish and other aquatic life, preventing them from moving to breeding grounds or in search of food. The Kletzsch Dam Fish Passage will create a pathway for these species to move upstream, allowing for a more naturally functioning ecosystem. This project is one part of the ongoing efforts […]
5 Acre Wetland Restoration
When the 438-acre Mequon Nature Preserve was established, there was only one acre of wetland on the entire property. Today, there’s an impressive 30 acres of natural, resilient wetland ecosystem with another 30 more that can be created once the property is fully restored. By removing drain tiling and revegetating a currently-agricultural space, the MNP […]
Wisconsin Salt Wise Salt Reduction Program
Winter road salt applications in the Lake Michigan basin are between 1.5 and 2 million tons per year, nearly doubling the salinity in 2020. Salt Wise started as an informational campaign to reduce these numbers, but has since grown into a coordinated statewide coalition working to train and educate the public and road maintenance professionals […]

Sheboygan Marsh Phase III
Sheboygan Marsh is the largest restored wetland in Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan basin. After multiple attempts to drain the area, a dam was built to replicate the previous limestone features in 1938. Ducks Unlimited and other community partners are now working to replace the deteriorating dam, reduce sediment entering the Sheboygan River, and maximize the ecological […]
Clean Water Technology Pilot Program
The Water Council will work with water technology innovators to conduct in-field, proof-of-concept testing of emerging clean water technologies at real-world demonstration sites in Wisconsin. Specific technologies to be piloted include HABAlert and the Turbidity Tracker. HABAlert would use artificial intelligence to quickly identify and enumerate cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) in freshwater lakes. The Turbidity Tracker […]
