With a seed grant from the FFLM and funding from Molson Coors, Milwaukee County will hire a dedicated Forestry Coordinator and a new Special Projects Manager. With support from the Fund, Milwaukee County Parks will, plant 6500 trees, convert approximately 20 acres of agricultural land into wetlands, develop plans to restore and enhance an additional 400 acres of degraded wetlands and leverage $11 million for the Milwaukee County Parks system. The wetland restoration and enhancement projects planned under this grant will have direct water quality benefits. As just one example, the county plans to convert 17.5 acres of agricultural land adjacent to Oak Creek into wetlands. With regard to tree planting, the county will prioritize reforestation efforts along riparian areas.
