This funding will help the Mequon Nature Preserve continue its efforts to restore a 438-acre property in a quickly developing area just north of the City of Milwaukee. The project, which includes the removal of two impervious structures in the Hahmann Farmstead area and the restoration and enhancement of a wet prairie, is phase one of a larger scale initiative to convert agricultural fields into wetlands that will provide critical habitat to wetland species and will absorb stormwater, filtering out sediment, microorganisms, heavy metals, and pollutants before they can reach Lake Michigan.
