The Monarch Conservancy is located on western edge of the Milwaukee County Grounds near the Menomonee River. The site serves as an important migratory flyway for birds and the monarch butterfly. The Friends of the Monarch Trail will create a more biodiverse plant community in the wetland and stream areas on the western side of the conservancy. Activities will include installing 20 or more native species that will persist in the landscape including forbs, grasses, shrubs, and wetland tolerant trees. They will also replace a 2,500 square foot abandoned, impervious roadway with native plantings
