This grant will support baseline water quality monitoring, bacteria monitoring, and winter salt monitoring and education programs in the Milwaukee River Basin. Since the program’s inception in 2006, Milwaukee Riverkeeper (MRK) has trained over 450 community scientists that fill a critical gap in Milwaukee River Basin monitoring and data collection. Their data helps government agencies and community partners identify waterways that are not meeting federal or state water quality standards and prioritizes them for management and policy protections. Management measures include; tree plantings, dam removals, stream restorations, or additions to the federally impaired waters list.
