This funding will support a position within the City of Milwaukee’s Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO) to coordinate efforts encouraging businesses to reduce single-use plastics that pollute Lake Michigan.
One of the principles ECO was founded on is to create fishable, swimmable river and water bodies by reducing nonpoint pollution, including the ubiquitous buildup of plastic on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
ECO feels this position will complement the ongoing work of the Plastic-Free MKE Coalition, and that putting the weight of the City behind efforts to recruit businesses will increase their success. FFLM has granted ECO funding to pilot similar positions in the past, and our early investment have helped secure success in converting them into long-term funded positions by the City.
