This funding would support wetland restoration at six sites owned by the Brown County Port Authority along stream corridors within the East River Watershed. The East River has been significantly degraded over the past century due to urbanization and agricultural development. The East River has flooded numerous times over the past five years, destroying homes and infrastructure. Local communities have recognized this threat and have created a restoration plan for the watershed. This project would be an early investment in implementing that plan. The county will restore 116 acres of county- owned land along stream corridors in the East River watershed. The county will remove stream impediments, re-meander and improve in-stream habitat, restore wetlands, and reconnect flood plains.
