Upgrade Sonar on the Neeskay

This grant will support UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences in the purchase and installation of a state-of-the-art sonar system on its research vessel, the Neeskay. The plan is to transfer the system to the school’s new research vessel, the Maggi Sue, when it comes online in four or five years. The current system dates to 1993 and can no longer take satellite data to provide GPS locations.  Sonar allows researchers to see what lies below the water’s surface and is used to identify habitat, water depth, bathymetry, water temperature and other water conditions.
