Fund For Lake Michigan

Underwood Creek Daylighting and Stream Restoration

  • Grant Recipient: Village of Elm Grove
  • Amount: $200,000
  • Year: 2020
  • Watershed: Menomonee River
  • Focus Area: Stream Restoration

The Underwood Creek daylighting project is transforming 1,600 feet of currently enclosed culvert into a new bioengineered channel that mimics the original streamflow. The project will improve fish passage and riparian habitat, bring the stream closer to its ecological potential, increase recreational value and human interaction with the stream, and manage both floodwater and stormwater. This grant supports the acquisition of one parcel needed to properly meander the stream, a critical step in this stage of the project.
