Our funding would support water quality monitoring, invasive species removal, and restoration planning for 2,800 feet of Trinity Creek on a 66-acre parcel recently acquired by the Mequon Nature Preserve.
The preserve sits at the headwaters of Trinity Creek, a direct tributary to the Milwaukee River. This stretch of the creek is channelized with significant erosion issues.
This project will link two previously restored stretches of the creek, one completed by MNP and one by Ozaukee County, creating a continuous corridor of restored stream habitat. The project will also evaluate the use of Beaver Dam Analogs, structures that mimic the effect beavers historically had on the watershed by slowing floodwaters and creating aquatic habitat.
Once completed, the project will restore 2,800 feet of Trinity Creek and 66 acres of adjacent habitat, capturing stormwater, reducing nutrient loading, and improving aquatic species habitat just north of Milwaukee County.
