Our funding would support a full-time Soil Conservationist in the region and would allow project partners to complete soil health studies that show the benefits of implementing conservation practices (including carbon sequestration and storage). They would also conduct an economic study to quantify the net economic outcome of adopting conservation practices in agricultural operations. This grant would be our third in support of the Milwaukee River Watershed Regional Conservation Partnership (MRWRCP). To date the program has received nearly $7 million and $11 million in partnership contributions. The project has removed 25,900 pounds of phosphorus and 21,100 pounds of sediment from the Milwaukee River, created 429 acres of farmland easements, conducted 200 annual on-farm visits, and connected with 2,200 farmers about adopting conservation practices.
