Our funding would support major stream restoration projects on 13,165 linear feet of Sucker Creek in Ozaukee County, a ten-mile stream north of Port Washington that flows directly into Lake Michigan. Seventy five percent of Sucker Creek has been dredged and straightened over the past 100 years resulting in poor habitat conditions and increased velocity during high water events. The stream has been listed as impaired since 2012. Restoration activities will include re-meandering the stream, restoring floodplain connectivity and restoring native species to upland areas. These restoration efforts will reduce sediment deposition, remove phosphorus and provide high quality habitat for native species.
