Our funding will support the restoration of bluff top wetlands and would restore the historic drainage of Virmond Park in the City of Mequon. Ozaukee County contains a majority of the undeveloped clay bluffs along Lake Michigan. These features, also known as seepage bluffs, contain rare perched wetlands that are very susceptible to erosion. This project will increase the amount of stormwater held in wetlands within the park, increasing infiltration and lowering bluff erosion. It will also take place in a highly visible location providing opportunities to educate the public on stormwater management best practices.
