Stony Brook Restoration Phase 3

This grant will support the replacement of a culvert near the headwaters of Stony Brook that is currently blocking aquatic organisms from moving upstream. Stony Brook was a successful trout fishery back in the 1970s and 80s. The DNR stocked trout in Stony Brook from 1973 to 1999, but had to abandon the program due to deteriorating stream conditions. Since that time Calumet County has focused on improving agricultural practices in the watershed. Project partners will remove barriers to fish passage to create improved habitat for trout and other cool water species.
