Southport Park Watershed Rejuvenation Project

  • Grant Recipient: Southport Park Association
  • Amount: $54,000
  • Year: 2024
  • Watershed: Lake Michigan Coast
  • Focus Area: Beach Restoration

Our funding will support the construction of a new stormwater management system at the historic Southport Beach House and its surrounding area.  he beach and the beach house were significantly damaged during a storm in 2012 and further deterioration occurred with recent high-water levels.  The City of Kenosha has committed to restoring the park and to date has dedicated $8,000,000 to this project. This project builds on a grant from FFLM in 2021 that supported design plans for the green infrastructure installation as well as a landscape plan for the 25-acre park. This project will implement the green infrastructure plan for the area around the Southport Beach House. This area is a significant contributor to runoff that degrades water quality at the beach. The project will be overseen by engineering staff from the City of Kenosha.
