The Sherman Phoenix, built in 1927, served primarily as a bank until it burned down in 2016 during a time of intense civil unrest. Since then, the community has come together to transform the shell of the building into a food hall, cultural hub, wellness center for 30 minority-owned businesses, and a city-wide destination. This project will transform the entrance of this thriving community space into a showcase for green infrastructure. Not only will the project manage storm water, but it will also create a vibrant outdoor space to match the vitality of the building’s interior.
