Racine County Land Conservation ($90,000)Agricultural runoff continues to be the highest threat to water quality in the Root River, especially at several priority areas listed in the Root River Watershed Restoration Plan. The Fund for Lake Michigan is therefore supporting Racine County Land Conservation’s project to install 25 acres of riparian buffer—including new and innovative harvestable buffers—on such priority agricultural lands along the Root River and its tributaries. These buffers will reduce sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus by an estimated 70%, as well as create 25 acres of wildlife habitat.
