This project is a continuation of the 18-year partnership between Riveredge Nature Center and the Wisconsin DNR to restore self-sustaining populations of lake sturgeon to the Milwaukee River after more than a 100-year absence. To date, 20,904 sturgeon have been released and 61 have been tracked coming back to the Milwaukee River. The FFLM has supported the sturgeon release program at Riveredge annually since 2015. Additionally, the Fund has supported facility upgrades at Riveredge, habitat assessments for the Milwaukee River, sturgeon tracking equipment and dam removals to ensure a stable sturgeon population.
