Restoring Wetland Habitat Through Nature-Based and Community Centered Approaches

  • Grant Recipient: Ducks Unlimited
  • Amount: $75,000
  • Year: 2025
  • Watershed: Fox River
  • Focus Area: Habitat Restoration

Our funding will support engineering and design for four wetland restoration projects in the Green Bay watershed.

At Longtail Point, DU and partners are working to restore approximately 230 acres of diverse coastal habitat including Great Lakes beach, hardwood swamp, and coastal marsh.

At the De Pere Dam on the Fox River, the project will restore approximately 57 acres of riparian wetlands and spawning habitat for lake sturgeon and other Great Lakes species.

At the Duck Creek Delta, the project aims to restore coastal wetlands and improve hydrologic connectivity for fish spawning, impacting approximately 475 acres.

A fourth project will restore over 15 acres of wetland, savannah, and woodland habitat on Brown County Port and Resource Recovery land.

This planning and design work will create a queue of large, fundable projects in northeast Wisconsin for the next five years, with the potential to restore over 577 acres of habitat in the Green Bay estuary and nearby tributaries.
