Our funding will support the removal and replacement of road stream crossings that are blocking the passage of aquatic organisms. These are typically undersized culverts or poorly constructed bridges. Trout Unlimited has been working in northeast Wisconsin since 2017 to inventory over 350 road stream crossings, survey dozens of priority project sites, and replace 44 aquatic organism barriers which reconnected over 115 miles of cold-water habitat. Trout Unlimited will complete at least 10 barrier removals reconnecting at least 45 miles of habitat. They will also inventory a minimum of 100 crossings per year to identify new projects, host an annual project tour, lead at least one design workshop, and survey and complete preliminary designs on 10 to 15 additional projects.
