Pike River South Branch Restoration

Our funding will help Kenosha County undertake the initial planning and design of a restoration project that has received a large grant from the Army Corps of Engineers. The South Branch of the Pike River is significantly impaired due to channelization and heavy development. It also tends to flood, threatening nearby Hawthorn Hollow Nature Center and Petrifying Springs Park. The initial study evaluates alternatives for restoration. Ultimately, the project will restore miles of river, improve aquatic habitat, provide a sustainable public corridor, and improve water quality and storage.
