The Milwaukee Area Estuary Area of Concern (AOC) is undergoing a massive cleanup and restoration effort.  Public support and community engagement are critical to the long-term success of the cleanup and related restoration efforts. The Milwaukee AOC’s Community Advisory Committee is being held up as a model for how to meaningfully engage and involve community members from all backgrounds and from all parts of the city in the effort.  Members of the CAC are compensated for their time and are recognized for the expertise, perspectives, and trusted relationships they bring to the process. The CAC educates members of the public about the AOC while actively soliciting their input and engagement relative to AOC projects. Ultimately, the CAC will be tasked with making recommendations regarding the delisting of individual Beneficial Use Impairments (BUIs).
