The Materials Recovery Facility on the north banks of the Menomonee River processes 250 tons of residential recycling per day from Milwaukee and Waukesha households. Due to increases in recyclable materials from online ordering during the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more materials have found their way into the Menomonee River from the MRF. Local partners are collaborating to minimize recyclables from entering the river while also providing education about recycling, trash, and water quality. The project will install wind screening and catch basins to catch litter, conduct volunteer and contractor cleanups of the dockwall, and create educational panels designed by local artist Nova Czarnecki.
