Meachem Stormwater Pond Constructed Wetland Conversion

  • Grant Recipient: Root Pike WIN
  • Amount: $28,127
  • Year: 2024
  • Watershed: Pike River
  • Focus Area: Habitat Restoration

This project would create design plans for the retrofit of the Meachem Stormwater Pond owned by Kenosha County.  A redesigned pond would include three different treatment systems: a sediment forebay, a low marsh and a high marsh. The first bay traps much of the sediment and treats the “first flush” from any rain event.  The low marsh further traps sediment and reduces nutrients, while also providing some beneficial habitat for aquatic species and pollinators.  The high marsh further reduces nutrients and provides high quality habitat for aquatic species.  Water will then be rerouted into the Meachem Wetland Reserve instead of entering the Pike River through a ditched channel.
