Fund For Lake Michigan

Making Allies for Healthier Communities

This grant supports the acquisition of 60 acres of farmland in the Little Menomonee Watershed, installation of conservation practices, and placement of a conservation easement on the property to prohibit future development. The grantee will then partner with the Fondy Food Center in Milwaukee to sell the land to Hmong farmers who currently lack access to affordable farmland close to their markets. This project will reduce nutrient and sediment loading to the Little Menomonee River, increase stormwater retention in the watershed, create habitat for pollinators, and provide sustainable agricultural land for underserved communities.
