This funding will help expand the efforts of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary (WSCNMS) to promote Lake Michigan conservation. The sanctuary protects 40 historic shipwrecks and aims to enhance water quality, public use, and scientific understanding of Lake Michigan through multidisciplinary research and monitoring. This project will fund a study of the acidification of Lake Michigan within the sanctuary in partnership with NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab (GLERL) and will provide water quality-focused training for K-12 educators.
