Kohler-Andrae State Park contains Wisconsin’s best example of a freshwater dune ecosystem and includes several state and federally threatened plant species. Visitors tend to create their own paths to the beach, damaging the fragile dune ecosystems. The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin will address this by creating seven trail spurs through the State Natural Area to connect people from the current two-mile cord walk trail directly to Lake Michigan, which is about 400 feet away.
