This request would build on a past grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan to expand Wisconsin’s Clean Marina program. The Clean Marina program provides training and technical assistance to help marinas implement best management practices that minimize water pollution and improve habitat. Marinas are certified as “Clean Marinas” once they have voluntarily adopted sufficient measures to reduce water pollution, protect public health, and improve fish and wildlife habitat. These practices include green infrastructure upgrades, boat washing stations, marine debris removal technology, proper bilge care recommendations, fishing line recycling containers and shrink wrap recycling programs to name a few. The Wisconsin Clean Marina program also participates in the Great Lakes Clean Marina Network and the National Clean Marina Program Manager’s Network.
