At 67-acres, The Forest Exploration Center (FEC) in Wauwatosa is one of the largest contiguous stands of forest left in Milwaukee County. Located immediately adjacent to the Menomonee River, the site is part of the historic Milwaukee County Grounds. FEC plans to make several improvements over the next several years to restore the forest and make the property more accessible to the public. Planned improvements include nature trails, outdoor classrooms and an extensive system of green infrastructure to capture and treat all stormwater on site. A grant from the Fund will support restoration of a small wetland along with installation of several green infrastructure features to capture runoff.
