Goose Migration Management at Lakeshore State Park

With this grant, Friends of Lakeshore State Park will use an environmentally friendly approach to manage the high number of geese that congregate at the park. This will help lower nutrient levels in the lake and will improve fish habitat in the park lagoon by reducing the amount of goose excrement that runs off park land. A naturally occurring, non-toxic and odorless compound will be used to safely and effectively discourage geese from feeding on the grassy areas in the park which will reduce the number of droppings. The lagoon was identified as a biological hotspot by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences, supported by the Fund for Lake Michigan.
