This grant will support investments in sustainability at UW Parkside’s campus in Kenosha County. The project focuses on the campus garden, where they will install a rainwater harvesting system on their hoop house as well as bioswales with wetland plants around the area to reduce runoff to the nearby Pike River. To maximize sustainability and promote both biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, they will also build a new garden with native plants and fruit trees and a 3-bay composting system. The enhancements to their garden will increase crop yield at the garden, which supplies produce to address food insecurity both on campus and in vulnerable populations through donations to the Racine County Food Bank.
