Our funding will support an eleven-acre wetland restoration at Emilie Park, adjacent to the main stem of the East River in Green Bay.
Green Bay residents have faced frequent flooding on the East River due to changes in the frequency and intensity of storm events, undersized stormwater infrastructure, and increasing development pressure. The Emilie Park restoration was identified through a previous project supported by the Fund that surveyed City properties along the East River.
By reconnecting the floodplain to the river, planting native vegetation, and installing green stormwater infrastructure, the project will create 35 acre-feet of new flood storage capacity and reduce peak flood levels by up to 1.2 inches during major storm events. The restored wetland will also improve water filtration and provide habitat for native fish, birds, and pollinators, representing one of the largest wetland restoration opportunities in the East River watershed.
