This is Phase II of Ducks Unlimited’s restoration of Dunes Lake, an 80-acre lake and wetland complex in Door County that is located next to a recently-purchased 600-acre Nature Conservancy (TNC) reserve. A Phase I pilot project determined that dredging would reduce nutrients and increase water depth to historic levels, making Dune Lake habitable for migratory fish. In this phase of the work, hydraulic dredging will remove 90,000 cubic yards of sediment and 140 pounds of legacy phosphorous from the lakebed. TNC will maintain the restoration long term.
