Fund For Lake Michigan

Creating the World’s First Water Stewardship District

  • Grant Recipient: The Water Council Inc.
  • Amount: $50,000
  • Year: 2018
  • Watershed: Menomonee River
  • Focus Area: Monitoring/Watershed Planning

To promote and reward water stewardship by the private sector, the Fund is investing in this effort by the Water Council and the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) to establish a “Water Stewardship District” in Milwaukee. Project partners will recruit at least two manufacturers in the Menomonee River Watershed to go through the AWS certification process and will facilitate collective approaches to watershed challenges. The District will be the first of its kind in the world and will have the highest concentration of AWS certified sites in a single watershed.
