With the goal of expanding an existing biological hotspot for bass and sunfish, staff at UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences will work with the WDNR and other stakeholders to fully design and permit habitat improvements within the Summerfest Lagoon at Milwaukee’s Lakeshore State Park (LSP). The project team will use the gravel beach location in the lagoon, where black bass spawning is concentrated, as a model for additional spawning areas by expanding the conditions in other areas of the lagoon and will consider “fish Sticks” –submerged woody habitat –to provide additional shelter for spawning fish.
