With our support, Two Rivers will design a protection plan for a 3.5 mile stretch of shoreline along Lake Michigan. The project builds on previous investments from FFLM and leverages additional funding for a popular area along the lake that has been heavily damaged by severe storms and changing lake conditions. Two Rivers will use FFLM funding to design a “living shoreline” with rock sills and breakwaters to protect the harbor and water treatment plant. Complementary funding will be used to design a living shoreline along the Trail and beach that focuses on green infrastructure, beach and dune stabilization through native plantings, and pollinator gardens. This design phase includes review of existing information and data, evaluation of the offshore and nearshore wave environment, community engagement, and preliminary design of nearshore structures
