This grant would support a collaboration between Sweet Water and Sandra McClellan’s lab at UW Milwaukee to develop a more cost-effective way to identify human waste in local waterways. Once identified, failing sewerage infrastructure can be identified and replaced, protecting public health and water resources. Currently, the method for testing these water samples is costly and slow. This project would identify a proxy you could test for, caffeine for example, that indicates a likelihood of human contamination but is much quicker and cheaper to test.
