Construction of a coastal wetland to intercept storm water drainage along the Green Bay shoreline

University of Wisconsin Green Bay ($60,000)The University of Wisconsin Green Bay’s project aims to better manage stormwater runoff from its campus, as well as reduce the impact of stormwater on Green Bay. Students, faculty, and staff will all collaboratively work to install a shallow coastal wetland at the discharge pipe of a stormwater drainage system. When completed, this shallow wetland will provide a natural filtration system for sediments and pollutants flowing into the bay. The creation of 1.5 acres of coastal wetlands will therefore have both significant ecological benefits, as well as water quality benefits.
