Ozaukee County and the Clean Farm Families continue to set the example of what a successful Demonstration Farm network looks like in Wisconsin. Clean Farm Families was officially created in 2016 with seven farmers. The group now includes 49 farmers who have transitioned to no-till farming, planting cover crops and utilizing low-disturbance manure applicators. Beyond changing practices on their land, the group does an excellent job on the education and outreach front. Our funding will subsidize the cost to farmers of changing agricultural practices on their land and would provide match to secure a grant from the Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protections (DATCP). These practices include planting cover crops, switching to “no-till” cropping and utilizing low-disturbance manure applicators to help improve and safeguard water quality.
