Scientists at the UMW School of Freshwater Sciences will partner with UWM’s Zilber School of Public Health, Carroll University, Milwaukee Riverkeeper and the Urban Ecology Center to teach citizens to test area waterways for emerging contaminants such as antibiotics, fungicides, painkillers and caffeine. The project will use tools including visualizations of the test results, static and interactive maps, and social media to promote broad community awareness among children and adults of the contaminants’ implications for public health, resource management, and science.
