Caledonia-Wind Point Coastal Climate Corridor Stream Restorations

  • Grant Recipient: Great Lakes CCC
  • Amount: $31,247
  • Year: 2024
  • Watershed: Lake Michigan Coast
  • Focus Area: Habitat Restoration, Stream Restoration

With support from the Fund, GLCCC will improve approximately one mile of streambank and connected waterways, as well as 115 acres of upland habitat, in northern Racine County. Crews will remove invasive species and install native plantings and trees to restore the upland forest area. They will also remove stream debris to prevent flooding of lowland areas and will armor streambanks with deep-rooting species.  In addition to their crew, GLCCC will facilitate participation by 7th and 8th grade students from the Racine Unified School District in the hands-on efforts. Wingspread will collaborate with the GLCCC to maximize the ecological restoration of the corridor. Together, the organizations will focus on streambank restoration as well as joint facilitation of experimental tree species for climate adaptation.
