Fund For Lake Michigan

Building Environmental and Water Justice Cohort of Public Allies

  • Grant Recipient: Public Allies Milwaukee
  • Amount: $223,875
  • Year: 2020
  • Watershed: Basinwide
  • Focus Area: Education/Outreach

To build a pipeline of young, diverse, local leaders committed to solving environmental challenges, Public Allies Milwaukee is establishing an inaugural cohort of eleven Environmental and Water Justice-focused Public Allies. The corps members will build capacity around water and environmental justice at eleven environmental not-for-profits and create a community of practice for improving equity at these organizations. With these emerging stewards, leadership at Milwaukee’s environmental not-for-profit sector will begin to better represent Milwaukee’s people of color, who disproportionately bear the burden of environmental harms and injustices in the Lake Michigan watershed.
