Bay Beach in Green Bay, once the site of a popular swimming destination, has been closed since 1938 because of excessive pollution in the Fox River and the Bay of Green Bay. The Clean Water Act of 1972 worked to greatly improve water quality in those locations, and now this award supports the city’s project to determine if a swimming beach can be constructed and meet DNR standards. Specifically, support from the Fund will allow the city to conduct engineering studies to examine all aspects of a beach design, which will also include improving water quality and stormwater management.
