Bay Beach Amusement Park has been in operation since 1920 and is now the ninth oldest amusement park in the United States. During the first two decades of operation the beach itself was one of the primary draws to the park. Poor water conditions caused by pollution from nearby industry forced the city to close the beach in 1938. The nearest beach for residents of Green Bay is now 45 minutes away. The closure changed the focus of the park away from the water, and the shoreline became an underutilized resource. Due to massive clean ups and policies implemented through the Clean Water Act, water quality has been improving in Green Bay to the point where it has been deemed safe for swimming. Our funding would help implement several aspects of the restoration plan including stormwater management, dune plantings and fish habitat improvements.
