Baseline Water Quality Monitoring for the Milwaukee River Basin

This investment will support and strengthen Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s citizen monitoring program. Under this impressive program, 90 volunteers monitor 95 river stations on a weekly basis, following stringent protocols established by the WDNR. As part of the grant, Riverkeeper will partner with MMSD, SEWRPC, USGS, WDNR, the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences and others to evaluate the citizen monitoring program, identify opportunities for improving effectiveness while reducing costs, and develop a strategic five-year water quality monitoring program.
