Our funding would support green infrastructure code audits for four communities within the East River watershed: Allouez, Bellevue, De Pere and Ledgeview. One of the largest barriers to utilizing green infrastructure in communities has been the existence of incompatible municipal codes and ordinances. An extensive audit of existing local codes and ordinances will be conducted, and a workshop will be held with city departments to review the results of the audit. A set of tailor made code updates and changes will be created and partners will build local support for adoption of those changes. At the end of the audit process, recommendations from an independent consultant and input from municipal staff will be utilized to identify barriers and propose amendments to the municipal code to support the implementation of green infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
