When the 438-acre Mequon Nature Preserve was established, there was only one acre of wetland on the entire property. Today, there’s an impressive 30 acres of natural, resilient wetland ecosystem with another 30 more that can be created once the property is fully restored. By removing drain tiling and revegetating a currently-agricultural space, the MNP team will mitigate soil erosion, sedimentation, and phosphorus runoff in the Milwaukee and Little Menomonee River watersheds while restoring vital native habitats.
